THE CARNIVAL OF VIAREGGIO – FEB
The Carnival of Viareggio was born in 1873, but only at the beginning of the twentieth century it was transferred to the Promenade and it started to grow in size and popularity.
Since 1931, the mask of Burlamacco has been the protagonist on the official posters, as symbol of the event.
Nowadays the Carnival of Viareggio is one of the largest Italian folk events, with a budget of € 5 million per year.
The Carnival of Viareggio fills a whole month of day-time and night-time festivities, with parades of allegorical Carts, local parties, masked balls and festivals of all kinds.
